Please bookmark our site for more information as it becomes available

Bantry Walking Festival was first held in 2013. The festival was conceived when members of local walking groups joined the Bantry Development and Tourism Association, a local group concerned with the advancement of the Bantry area. The walkers proposed the festival in an effort to boost the profile of Bantry as a Walking Destination and to showcase the numerous breathtaking walks that the area has to offer.

Since then the festival profile has grown and an ever increasing number of volunteers sign up every year to assist. All those that work to organise and guide the festival do so on a voluntary basis, with any profit put back into the BDTA to fund this and other festivals held throughout the year in the area. It is these volunteers that set and map the walks, work tirelessly behind the scenes and the farmers that allow the walks to cross their lands, that make this festival possible year after year.

In 2016 we again expanded the festival with a launch on Friday 3 June in Bantry Community Tourist Office and a guided historical walk of the town free for all to attend.

Family-friendly “D” walks were also a great new addition to the festival last year with Saturday’s walk following the Drimoleague Heritage Trails while Sunday saw families taking part in a ramble through the scenic Mealagh Valley.

Over the weekend in 2016 we had 198 walkers take part in 227 individual walks, a record for our festival showing that we are growing year on year! We hope to make 2017 the best festival yet!
